Yesterday a wish of mine came true. Capital Records and Brian Wilson decided to release the greatest never finished pop album of all time. On November 1, 2011, The Beach Boys’ SMiLE was finally released. It was released as a box set containing the the almost finished album and a bunch of outtakes and studio sessions. The reason I say almost finished is because although the new release has all of the songs, and all of the songs in the order that they were going to appear on the album if it was completed back in 1966. Only two of the songs were 100% completed to Brian Wilson’s liking. Even to this day, the music still holds up and the album contains some of the most beautiful harmonies, some of the catchiest melodies, and some of the greatest compositions. The album was also perfectly produced. Brian Wilson worked really hard to make the album perfect. It’s a shame it was abandoned. I’m glad they finally released everything that was left because the music is fantastic. The lyrics are interesting and the music was written brilliantly. I’ve been listening to the music non stop since I bought it. This album truly is a “teenage symphony to God”.
